Cross-linguistic comparative analysis:
Typology and levels of analysis; interaction between different levels of grammar (phonology, morphology, syntax, semantics, pragmatics). Identification of universal principles of language and their different realizations in typologically different languages. Critical reflection on data and on
theoretical hypotheses.
Diachronic linguistics: history of comparative linguistics, comparative method, indo-europeistic reconstruction (phonetics, morphology), comparison between genetic, areal and typological classification; linguistic change (at different levels), its motivations and diffusion.
