BIOMETRIC SYSTEMS
(objectives)
THE COURSE AIMS AT PROVIDING THE NECESSARY INSTRUMETS FOR THE ANALYSIS AND DESIGN OF BIOMETRIC SYSTEMS. SPECIFICALLY BOTH MORPHOLOGICAL BIOMETRICS (FINGERPRINTS, IRIS, FACES (2D AND 3D), HAD GEOMETRY, HANDPALM, VEIN PATTERNS, THERMOGRAMS) AND BEHAVIOR (SIGNATURE, VOICE, GAIT ETC.). ARE ANALYZED. THE ARCHITECTURE OF BIOMETRIC SYSTEMS WILL BE DESCRIBED. THE METRICS TO DESCRIBE THE RECOGNITION SYSTEM PERFORMANCE (FAR, FRR, USABILITY, SCALABILITY, SECURITY, ETC.) ARE GIVEN. MULTIMODAL BIOMETRIC SYSTEMS ARE INTRODUCED. ANALYSIS OF SECURITY, PRIVACY OF VULNERABILITY OF BIOMETRIC SYSTEMS ARE DESCRIBED. FINALLY SOME ELEMENTS ABOUT BIOMETRIC STANDARDS AND SOME EXAMPLES OF BIOMETRIC SYSTEMS IN REAL LIFE ARE ILLUSTRATED. THE COURSE WILL INCLUDE LABORATORY ACTIVITIES TO DESIGN AND CONSTRUCTION OF A PRACTICE-BASED BIOMETRIC AUTHENTICATION SYSTEM. STUDENTS WILL USE SENSORS FOR THE ACQUISITION OF FINGERPRINTS, HANDPALM OF THE PALM OF YOUR HAND, OF VEIN PATTERNS, FACE, IRIS, SIGNATURE, VOICE AND WILL INTEGRATE SOME OF THEM IN AN AUTOMATIC RECOGNITION SYSTEM AND ASSESS THE RELATIVE PERFORMANCE.
