Illustration and analysis of the complex relationships existing within the lexicon of languages with the aim of highlighting how these do not coincide in the passage from one language to another. The role that the lexicon has in communication and in particular in the learning of foreign languages is emphasized The course is divided into two parts: a) Description of the process of acquiring foreign languages and Italian in particular; b) illustration and guided analysis of numerous and recent results of research projects on the process of spontaneous acquisition or guided learning of an L2 (European or non-European), with particular attention to the role that the lexicon has in this process. Reflection on the desired, possible applications of the results of the research in L2 teaching.
