(syllabus)
Course programme The course consists of theoretical lectures with interdisciplinary contributions, and a design exercise in groups. The lectures provide an overview of the major theories of urban space since the beginning of XX century, focusing on: new landscapes, morphological relationships between typology and space of the city, role of infrastructure in the configuration of urban systems at different scales. Lectures will offer critical instruments for the development of a project in a selected area of the city of Rome. During the semester the students will be asked to work in groups with discussions and common critics to develop a masterplan for an paradigmatic area of Rome starting from the existing plans and real conditions of the selected area.
Didactic Methods The exam takes place with the presentation of the elaborated analysis and the project through drawings and models, as well as a discussion on the topics of lectures.
