(syllabus)
The module is divided into 3 major parts. In the first an overview on language families is provided, their internal division e their geographical collocation. In the second the main objectives of typological analysis is provided, through the analysis of data and the application of some universal. Specifically, the comparative analysis will focus on the morpho-syntactic level, with particular attention to the interface between semantics and syntax, the realization of subjects, nominal modification (relative clauses) and discourse grammar. Finally, language contact will be approached, with particular reference to the concept of “linguistic area” and to the creation of pidgins and creoles.
