The aim of the first part of the course is providing to the students some basic instruments of knowledge: a) the meaning of politics; b) how to construct scientific theories; c) elements of methodology used by political science to investigate the political phenomena.
The second part of the course analyses some crucial themes, such as: a) the state and the processes of state-building; b) the process of European integration; c) the types and features of political regimes (non-democratic, hybrid and democratic regimes).
The third part of the course analyses, always in a comparative perspective, the subject of democracy: a) political parties, groups, social movements; b) elections and electorial systems; c) political representation; d) the democratic institutional systems (parliament, government, public administrations); e) the actors and the dynamics of policy-making.

Objectives

Business Economics
The course aims to provide students with the knowledge and tools useful for understanding business economics. In the first part of the course: the basic knowledge for understanding the structure and behavior of the business system. In the second part of the course, students are provided with the basic tools on the subject of crisis and corporate recovery and business ethics.

Business economics as an economic science. The company as an institution: assets, management and organization.
The company and human needs (Maslow's Theory). For-profit companies and non-profit organizations. Legal entity and Economic entity.
The company, group and collective economy efficiency: costs and returns. Corporate efficiency: Break Even Analysis.

Module Two: Business Crisis and Corporate Recovery (4 University Credits)
Crisis and decline, insolvency and failure causes of the crisis: inefficiency, overcapacity, products, programming and innovation.
Remediation and turnaround, remediation and termination. The turnaround project. The actors of the recovery.
Ethical theories. Economic Ethics. Ethics and business in socio-organizational sciences. Stakeholder Theory. Corporate Social Responsibility.

Public finance studies the public sector of the economy, in particular the tax and spend activities of the state. The course is organized in three parts. The first part is methodological, it provides the tools for analyzing and evaluating state intervention in the economy. The main topics covered are welfare economics, market failures, public goods and externalities; public choice and the positive theory of public intervention. The second part, specifically on public economics, examines the main spending programs of the state: assistance to the poor, income redistribution, health care, education, pensions and the functioning of the welfare state, analyzed above all from an evolutionary perspective of workfare. The third part of the course, relating to public finance, analyzes the main taxes that finance the activities of the state. The main topics are the theory of taxation, efficiency and equity in taxation, the structure of the Italian tax system, the main major taxes - personal income tax, corporation tax, consumption and wealth tax; the introduction to decentralized finance, deficit financing and the constraints to which it is subject.

The course will investigate the relation between law and social change in the present time, and in the theoretical and empirical foundation processes of the modern State. It will provide both the tools necessary for understanding emerging problems, and conceptual tools related to critical thinking and gender studies, together with the classic themes of the socio-legal thought.
The course will develop through three modules:

1. In the first one, we will study the classical and contemporary themes of the relationship between law and society: the State, the property, the justice, the contract, the family, the punishment, the work, the human rights, the migrations.
2. The second module will offer more specific tools, i.e. the analysis of the symbolic, cultural and legal function of the contribution of feminist studies in relation to law, deviance and power. In particular, the relationship between the Thought of Sexual Difference and the doctrine of Juridical Experience will be investigated, both at a theoretical level and in the practices carried out in trials, as well as the concept of “Juridical Feminism” applied to the main themes of the present time: equality/difference; citizenship/borders; criminology/delinquency/security; justice/law/rights; gender/sexuality/reproduction; victim/victimology/vulnerability.
3. The third module will address the great contemporary theme of the crisis of the rule of law and the political use of punishment in the contemporary societies. In particular we will work on the concept of "penal populism".
