Curriculum

Education October 2011 to January 2016– “University of Cambridge” (UK) – PhD in “American History” Research project on US-European relations during the Cold War years, with a focus on American public and cultural diplomacy in Italy during the 1960s. I look particularly at the United States Information Agency (USIA) and its role in explaining American policy and culture to the Italians, in a period of deep changes and fractures for both the United States and Italy. Research is based on recently declassified documents form American and Italian archives. Supervisor is Prof. David Reynolds. November 2010 – “Roma Tre University” (Italy) – MA in International Relations, Grade 110/110 honors. The thesis, based on original research carried out at the US National Archives (NARA), looked at the origins and evolution of American public diplomacy and propaganda in the post 1945 period. Focus is on US strategy to influence public opinion and governments both in Western Europe and in the developing world, in a comparative perspecitve. Supervisor is Prof. Daniele Fiorentino March 2008 – “Roma Tre University” (Italy) – BA in Political Science – Grade 110/110 honors. BA thesis in the area of Comparative Public Law on the origins and regulation of the “living will” in the Scandinavian Countries with the intent of filling the existing gap in Italian legal system. The thesis was brought to the attention of a member of the Italian Constitutional Court and used to prepare a draft legislation, which has been submitted to the Italian Parliament for consideration Professional Experience January to June 2016: Institute for the International Education of Students (IES Abroad), Rome. Teacher of the Course “The United States and Europe in the XX Century”: I was in charge of teaching a semester’s course to American last year bachelor’s students. February 2015 ongoing: Università degli Studi Roma Tre, Rome. Teaching Asisstant: I am in charge of helping Prof. Daniele Fiorentino with the teaching of the course “The United States and Europe”. By this semester I will start my own course for Master student’s at the Roma Tre University on US-European relation with a focus on public and cultural diplomacy and propaganda. January to June 2016: Consultant for Hon. Lia Quartapelle, Chair of the Italian Parliament PD Foreign Affairs Committee I was in charge of research, writing speech, articles and report on the main Italian foreign policy issues, in particular transatlantic relations, EU, migrations and Africa and the Middle East. June 2015 ongoing: La Repubblica, Rome. Contributor for the Repubblica’s Monday insert “Affari &Finanza” where I write about internaiotnal economics and innovation. July to September 2014: The Economist Intelligence Unit, The Economist Group, London. Research Analyst: I was in charge of analysing Italian healthcare market. Activities include qualitative and quantitative research, recruit and interview key opinion leaders, market sizing, market share analysis and benchmarking. October 2012 to October 2013 – Supervisor in “American History”, University of Cambridge In charge of supervising student’s papers in “History of the United States since 1865”. I was also in charge of assisting in organizing seminar and talks. February 2009 to January 2011 – Associazione Pubblici Cittadini (18 S. Barnaba, Milan, Italy) National Coordinator of think tank devoted to research and the development of long-term projects for reform on issues directly affecting the public sphere, such as political transparency, environment, education, etc. The organization is based in Milan and Rome, among its members are Valerio Onida, Valerio Zanone, Beatrice Rangoni Machiavelli, etc. (www.pubblicicittadini.org). September 2009 to January 2010 – Italian Center for American Studies (32 Via Caetani, Rome, Italy) Intern – Activities included research, writing papers and minutes, organization of conferences on topic of interest of Italy and the United States, updating the website and translation of texts from Italian to English. Other Relevant Experience 6 December 2014: Lecture on ‘US public diplomacy in Italy during the Cold War’, ‘Universita di Firenze’. April 2013-June 2014 – “Cambridge University Italian Society”, University of Cambridge. President: Responsible with maintaining relations between the University of Cambridge and Italian academic and cultural world. In charge also of organizing talk and seminars by Italian academics and intellectuals to promote Italian culture and research in Cambridge.
